Probe and Beam Setup (Phased Array Mode) 243
CSC
Activation control for curved surface correction (CSC). This software feature
corrects measurement readings such as surface distance for circumferential
inspections of a pipe or other curved surface.
Vel oc ity
Defines the standard accepted value of the material velocity for the test piece. The
default values for standard probe/wedge combinations are for steel (longitudinal
or shear-based on wedge selection).
Standard wedges are designed to be used with 1018 carbon steel. When used with
other materials, the actual refracted angle might vary. Contact Olympus for more
information.
12.2.3 Focal Law Range and Resolution
The third section of items in the Beam setup page allows you to adjust the focal laws
calculated for the given probe/wedge combination. Focal law definition defines the
angular coverage (sweep) and resolution of the phased array probe for the inspection.
When a standard probe and wedge are selected using Probe ID and Wedge ID, these
items default to the most common settings used with the selected probe/wedge
combination. These items include:
Start Angle
Used to define the starting inspection angle of the phased array probe, one end of
the S-scan angular coverage (sweep). Common start angles are 40° (angle
inspection) and –30° (straight beam inspection).
End Angle
Used to define the ending inspection angle of the phased array probe, the other
end of the S-scan angular coverage (sweep). Common end angles are 70° (angle
inspection) and +30° (straight beam inspection).
Angle Step
Used to define the resolution of the S-scan image, the angle increment between
contiguous focal laws in the S-scan. Available increments are 0.5°, 1° and 2°.
