Calibrating the EPOCH 1000 Series (Conventional UT Mode) 167
11. Adjust the value to match the known thickness of the gated indication (1.500 in. in
this example), and then choose Calculate to complete the calibration process.
9.9 Curved Surface Correction
The EPOCH 1000 Series provides for surface distance correction when inspecting
pipes, cylinders, and other curved surfaces using an angle beam transducer. This
applies only to inspections where the surface of the test piece is curved in the
direction of the sound path of the transducer. This feature corrects the horizontal
distance and depth to reflector measurements based on part thickness and part
diameter. The correction is applicable for curved surface inspections where the
transducer is placed on the outer diameter of the part, as well as on the inner
diameter.
To activate curved surface correction
1. Select 1/5 > TRIG > CSC = On to activate curved surface correction.
The symbol appears in the flag area.
2. Choose 1/5 > TRIG > Outer Dia. or Inner Dia., and then enter the diameter of the
inspection piece.
