4. On the GC interface, close the reference inlet valve and open the pump
valve.
Rationale: This step removes any remaining sample from between the
reference inlet valve and the instrument’s source. Reference sample will,
however, remain in the injection port.
5. In the MassLynx window, click .
6. In the Start Sample List Run dialog box, click OK.
7. Carefully remove the solids probe from the ion source.

8. Wait for the probe to cool.
9. Fit a loaded sample cup to the probe tip.

10. Insert the probe and sample into the ion source.

page 6-9.
11. In the MassLynx window’s Sample List menu bar, click Chromatogram.
12. In the Chromatogram window, click .
13. Monitor the desorption profile.
Tip: Heat the probe up to 200 °C ± 10 °C if the peak shows excessive
tailing. The time constant of desorption is approximately 1 minute.
A chromatogram similar to the following appears.
Warning: The probe components can be contaminated with toxic
materials. Wear nitrile gloves at all times while handling the
components.
