7.4.1 Replacing 2.5- inch SAS / SATA backplane
7.4.1.1 Preliminary steps
I The 2.5-inch HDD SAS / SATA backplane is mounted on the drive cage.
It is not necessary to remove the drive cage before replacing the
SAS / SATA backplane
Before replacing a 2.5-inch HDD SAS / SATA backplane, perform the following
steps:
Ê Disable BitLocker functionality as described in section "Disabling BitLocker
functionality" on page 73.
Ê Shut down the defective server as described in section "Shutting down the
server" on page 52.
Ê Disconnect the AC power cord from the system.
Ê Disengage all HDD modules from the server as described in section
"Removing 2.5-inch HDD / SSD modules" on page 122.
I You need not to remove the 2.5-inch HDD / SSD completely but if you
do so please follow the next caution.
V CAUTION!
Ensure that all hard disk drives are uniquely identified so that you can
reinsert them into their original bays after replacing the HDD
backplane.
Ê Remove the server cover as described in section "Opening the server" on
page 55.
