7-84 Routine maintenance
To measure the detector gain
1. On the Tune window, set Scan Time (ms) to 100.
2. Select a PFK peak, close to m/z 293, that exhibits a noise level equal to
approximately 20% of the peak height.
3. Double-click on the peak, to center it in the display.
4. Set Span (ppm) to 1.
5. If not already displayed, add the Multiply Gain to the Tune window
peak display toolbar.
See “To add statistics displays to the peak display toolbar” on page D-53.
6. When the reading variations have settled down, record the value of
Multiply Gain.
Rationale: This value will be used when calculating the EI sensitivity.
To set up the experimental conditions
1. On the MassLynx window, click MS Method.
2. In the MS method editor, click .
Alternative: Click Functions > Voltage SIR.
3. In the Voltage SIR function editor ensure that the AutoSpec Parameter
File shown is the file you saved after tuning the instrument.
See “To tune the instrument” on page 7-83, step 2.
4. Set the parameters as shown in figure “Voltage SIR function editor for
EI sensitivity” on page 7-85, and then click OK.
