Removing the SAN Volume Controller 2145-8G4 fibre-channel adapter assembly
Perform the following steps to remove the SAN Volume Controller 2145-8G4 fibre-channel adapter
assembly:
1. Turn off the node while ensuring that its data is mirrored and synchronized. See MAP 5350 in the
IBM System Storage SAN Volume Controller 2145 Troubleshooting Guide for more information.
Attention: When you install an adapter, make sure that the adapter is correctly seated in the
connector before you turn on the server. An incorrectly seated adapter might cause damage to the
system board, the riser-card assembly, or the adapter.
2. When the node is completely turned off, remove the main power cable-retention bracket and remove
the power cable from the rear of the node.
3. After writing down their locations, remove all other cables from the node.
4. Remove the node from the rack and place it on a flat, static-protective surface. See “Removing the
SAN Volume Controller from a rack” on page 40.

6. Grasp the riser-card assembly (

in Figure 177) at the rear edge and lift to remove the riser-card
assembly.
7. Place the riser-card assembly on a flat, static-protective surface.
8. Carefully grasp the adapter

by its top edge or upper corners, and pull the adapter from the
riser-card assembly
