Note: The node has six fan positions that are numbered left to right under the two fan doors.
4. Disconnect the cable of the failing fan from the connector on the system board by pressing the release
latch on the plug at the end of the cable.
5. Pull up on the orange tab (

in Figure 235) of the failing fan to lift the fan out of the node.
Removing the SAN Volume Controller 2145-8F4 or SAN Volume Controller
2145-8F2 fans
Ensure that you are aware of the procedures for handling static-sensitive devices before you remove the
SAN Volume Controller 2145-8F4 or SAN Volume Controller 2145-8F2 fans.
Perform the following steps to remove a failed fan:
1. Turn off the node while ensuring that its data is mirrored and synchronized. See MAP 5350 in the
IBM System Storage SAN Volume Controller 2145 Troubleshooting Guide for more information.

3. Open the fan door where the failed fan resides. Fans 1, 2, and 3 are under fan door A 1. Fans 4
through 7 are under fan door B 2, as shown in Figure 236 on page 214.
