Functional Descriptions
Variable and Fixed Side
This manual makes several references to the variable side and a fixed side of the
machine. The fixed side is the area of the machine that does not change position
while adjusting the machine for new carton sizes. The variable side of the
machine does change position when making machine adjustments such as for a
new size of carton or production adjustments. The areas that are considered the
fixed side are all set to their own base setting allowing them to work at the proper
settings, speed, and location in conjunction with the other areas. Some
maintenance and adjustment procedures require the base settings for the fixed
side of the machine to be reset to be in alignment with the other areas of the
machine.
