Carton Considerations
Problems may occur due to improperly produced or stored cartons.
Dimensional Deviations
Dimensional deviations may occur in blanks during the manufacturing process of
the cartons. This may result in the carton machine jamming.
Since the settings of all carton machines can be adjusted to a sample carton,
dimensional differences may be limited to individual applications (Blanks that are
punched from the printed sheet in a multi-tool).
It is not standard practice to specify dimensional tolerances in the carton
industry, but a blank tolerance of +/- 0.5 mm may be expected between individual
applications. If problems occur, check which applications these inaccurate
cartons are derived from, since most carton manufacturers print application
numbers on the cartons.
Glue Placement
Cartons that are not glued straight on the longitudinal seam, may be because the
longitudinal grooves are not be parallel to the longitudinal seal. The blank could
also be at the incorrect angle if the carton gluing machine is not adjusted
correctly.
Out of alignment gluing usually only occurs when the wrong fiber direction was
selected. The fibers must always run perpendicular to the longitudinal seal of a
carton.
