Carton Considerations
Bent or Curved Cartons
A bent or curved carton defect is usually caused by problems in shipping or
storage.
A large change in relative humidity accompanying major fluctuations in
temperature or too much stacking pressure during pallet shipping may cause
bending. This always makes it more difficult to pick up cartons from the carton
machine. More solid shipping cartons with folds next to each other and standing
up should be used for this purpose.
The moisture content of the cartons while the cartons are being processed and
stored should be 7.5 % +/- 1% for the duration of processing. (A water content of
7.5% corresponds to a relative moisture ratio at equilibrium of about 55 % +/- 5 %
at a standard temperature of 20 °C for typical cartons.).
