ElectroMagnetic Compatibility (EMC)
Outlined in the tables provided in this section are the manufacturer’s declaration and guidance
regarding electromagnetic compatibility.
The EMISSIONS characteristics of this equipment make it suitable for use in industrial areas
and hospitals (CISPR 11 class A). If it is used in a residential environment (for which CISPR 11
class B is normally required) this equipment might not offer adequate protection to radio-
frequency communication services. The user might need to take mitigation measures, such
as relocating or re-orienting the equipment.
Portable RF communications equipment — including antennas — can affect medical electrical
equipment and is be used no closer than 30 cm (12 inches) to any part of the Starling Monitor.
The Starling Monitor requires the following special precautions with regard to electromagnetic
compatibility:
The Starling Monitor must be handled and used as described in this User Guide.
Certain types of mobile telecommunication devices such as mobile telephones are likely to cause
interference with the Starling Monitor. Therefore, the recommended separation distances shown
in Table B-10 must be complied with.
The Starling Monitor must not be used near or on top of another device. If this cannot be avoided,
it is necessary – before clinical use – to check the equipment for correct operation under the
conditions of use.
The use of accessories other than those specified or sold by Baxter as replacement parts may
have the consequence of increasing the emissions or decreasing the immunity of the unit.
