2-8 Starling Monitor - User Guide
Theory of Operation
To determine fluid responsiveness, or volume status, the operator is able to perform Dynamic
Assessment Tests. A fluid challenge is achieved either by a simple Passive Leg Raise (PLR), or
by the intravenous delivery of a Fluid Bolus.
With a Fluid Bolus, if the heart can receive more fluid, greater outflow and a longer time delay
will be observed - equivalent to the increase in Stroke Volume.
