Patient Safety and Handling Guidelines
Infection Control
Adequate cleaning of the Starling Monitor is necessary to prevent patient-to-patient disease
transmission. It is the responsibility of the equipment user to verify and maintain the
effectiveness of the infection control procedures in use.
Note
For cleaning instructions, refer to the following:
Cleaning and Disinfecting the Starling Monitor on page 6-2
Cleaning System Accessories on page 6-5
Electricity Power Failure
In the event of power down or interruption in the mains power supply during Patient Monitoring,
the Starling Monitor internal backup batteries will sustain power to the system for up to 6 hours.
Note
The above is applicable to fully-charged batteries.
To fully-charge the batteries when depleted, it is necessary to connect the device to the external
power supply for approximately 4 hours.
Battery Capacity Low
When using the Starling Monitor, is recommended to routinely observe the power status
indicators (shown in Table 2-2 on page 2-16).
If the system is not currently connected to the mains power, and the internal backup battery
capacity is approaching low, it is necessary to reconnect the system to a mains power source
in order to recharge the batteries.
Disposable Starling Sensors for use with the Starling system are intended for single use only.
When the battery capacity is low, in the event that the Starling Monitor is not connected to the mains
power, the system will automatically shut down safely.
