Error Number List
This appendix gives the error numbers and descriptions that are returned by the
ac source. Error numbers are returned in two ways:
– Error numbers are displayed on the front panel
– Error numbers and messages are read back with the SYSTem:ERRor? query.
SYSTem:ERRor? returns the error number into a variable and returns two
parameters, an NR1 and a string.
The following table lists the errors that are associated with SCPI syntax errors and
interface problems. It also lists the device dependent errors. Information inside the
brackets is not part of the standard error message, but is included for clarification.
When errors occur, the Standard Event Status register records them in bit 2, 3, 4,
or 5:

–101 Invalid character
–102 Syntax error [unrecognized command or data type]
–103 Invalid separator
–104 Data type error [e.g., “numeric or string expected, got block data”]
–105 GET not allowed
–108 Parameter not allowed [too many parameters]
–109 Missing parameter [too few parameters]
–112 Program mnemonic too long [maximum 12 characters]
–113 Undefined header [operation not allowed for this device]
–121 Invalid character in number [includes “9” in octal data, etc.]
–123 Numeric overflow [exponent too large; exponent magnitude >32 k]
–124 Too many digits [number too long; more than 255 digits received]
–128 Numeric data not allowed
