120 Upgrade and Maintenance Manual
RX2520 M4
Hard disk drive (HDD) and solid state drive (SSD)
7.1 Basic information
The HDD or SSD and the installation frame together make up the HDD module
or SSD module.
The server is shipped with one of the following HDD or SSD subsystems:
– 3.5-inch HDD subsystem:
Up to 12 3.5-inch SAS/SATA HDD modules can be installed. The HDD
module is connected to the backplane wirelessly. This allows HDD modules
to be plugged in or pulled out easily.
Hybrid configurations of SAS and SATA HDD modules are supported in
combination with an optional HDD controller.
The HDD bays can be equipped with 3.5-inch HDD modules or 2.5-inch
HDD/SSD modules, see section "3.5-inch HDD and 3.5-inch installation
frame" on page 125.
– 2.5-inch HDD/SSD subsystem:
Up to eight, 16 or 24 2.5-inch SAS/SATA HDD/SSD modules can be
installed.
The HDD/SSD modules are connected to the backplane wirelessly. This
allows HDD/SSD modules to be plugged in or pulled out easily. If the server
has a corresponding RAID configuration, defective HDD/SSD modules can
also be replaced during operation.
Hybrid configurations of SAS and SATA SSD / BC-SAS and BC-SATA HDD
modules are supported in combination with an optional HDD controller
.
I In the configuration with up to eight HDD/SSD modules, up to four PCIe
SSDs can be installed, if one PCIe SSD backplane and one Retimer
controller is installed (see figure 45).
I For information on RAID controllers controlling the HDD/SSD modules
see chapter "Expansion cards and backup units" on page 195.
