Hard disk drive (HDD) and solid state drive (SSD)
7.3.6 Removing 2.5-inch HDD/SSD modules
I PCIe SSDs SFF are mounted in the same frames as the 2.5-inch
HDD/SSD modules. Therefore, this section is also valid and applicable if
PCIe SSDs SFF are used.
The preliminary and concluding steps are only necessary for HDD/SSD
modules, not for the PCIe SSDs SFF. PCIe SSDs SFF are never
combined in a RAID array.
7.3.6.1 Preliminary steps
Ê If the HDD module to be removed is combined into a RAID array, please
proceed as follows:
In order to permanently remove an operational HDD module that is part of a
RAID array from the server, you first need to delete the array using
ServerView RAID Manager or BIOS Utility.
Customer Replaceable Unit
(CRU)
Hardware: 5 minutes
Tools: tool-less
RAID level Procedure
RAID 0
V CAUTION!
RAID 0 provides no data redundancy.
In case of an HDD module is defect, all data
are lost!
RAID 1
RAID 5
Removing an HDD module from a RAID 1 or RAID 5
array will not result in data loss.
However, the removed drive needs to be replaced
immediately by an HDD module of the same or larger
capacity.
I After replacing the HDD module, RAID rebuild
will be performed as a background process,
see section "Performing a RAID array rebuild"
on page 90.
