Converting a tower server to a rack server
15.2 Preliminary steps
Before converting the server model, perform the following steps:
Ê Shut down the server as described in section "Shutting down the server" on
page 71.
Ê Remove the AC power cords from the PSU cable brackets and disconnect
them from the system as described in section "Disconnecting the server
from the mains" on page 72.
Ê Remove all external cables.
Ê Open the side cover as described in section "Unlocking the server" on
page 85.
Ê Pull out the ID card and open the front cover as described in section
"Removing the ID card" on page 90.
Ê When working on a tower server, open the HDD bay cover as described in
section "Removing accessible drive and HDD bay covers" on page 91.
Ê Remove the front cover as described in section "Removing the front cover"
on page 94.
I The front cover is no longer required.
Ê If applicable, remove all HDDs or HDD dummy modules from an installed
HDD extension box as described in the following sections:
– "Removing a 2.5-inch HDD / SSD module" on page 220
– "Removing a 2.5-inch HDD / SSD dummy module" on page 215
– "Removing a 3.5-inch HDD module" on page 279
– "Removing a 3.5-inch HDD dummy module" on page 273
Ê Remove all accessible drives, extension boxes and filler covers as
described in the following sections:
– "Removing accessible drives" on page 675
– "Removing accessible drive filler covers" on page 656
– "HDD extension boxes" on page 309
Ê If applicable, remove the anti-tilt bracket as described in section "Removing
the anti-tilt bracket" on page 129.
