Chapter 3: FRU Removal and Replacement Procedures
Replacing Array or Expansion Module Hard Drives
Quantum DXi6900 G1 User’s Guide 195
Removing a Drive from
an Array or Expansion
Module
To remove the failed hard drive from a DXi6900 G1 Array module
(RBOD) or Expansion module (EBOD):
WARNING: DO NOT replace a drive until determining its status. A
drive with an impending failure or in optimal status needs
to be put into a failed state before removal. Failure to do
this may cause issues with the DXi6900 G1 system (see
Failing a Non-Critical Fault (NCF) or Optimal Hard Drive on
page 191).
Caution: You must replace the drive within three minutes after
removal to prevent the possibility of overheating the
equipment.
Caution: Bumping drives against another surface can damage the
drive mechanism or connectors. To avoid damage when
removing or installing a drive, always place your hand
under the drive to support its weight.
1 Carefully unpack the replacement drive and set it on a dry, level
surface near the Array module or Expansion module.
2 On the failed drive, pull the hard-drive carrier release handle to the
left (see
Figure 48).
3 Slide the hard-drive carrier out until it is free of the hard-drive slot.
