7.2 Alias
Aliases allow snapshots to be recalled either on different consoles or on both
desks of an A/B Desk mode system.
Since Aliases are saved within a snapshot, logical inputs are no longer ref-
erenced by their IDs (LogInput ID #1...255) but by the means of the Alias
instead. Therefore the Alias is used when
  • recallinganinputroutingsnapshot
  • recallinganaudiosnapshot
The following example illustrates the advantage of the Alias in a A/B Desk
mode system.
Primary Desk Secondary Desk
LogInp ID # Label Alias LogInp ID # Label Alias
1 DJ Mic Input1 101 DJ Mic Input1
2 CR Mic 1 Input 2 102 CR Mic 1 Input 2
3 Guest 1 CR Input 3 103 Guest 1 CR Input 3
4 Guest 2 CR Input 4 104 Guest 2 CR Input 4
5 CD Input 5 105 CD Input 5
6 DIGI 1 Input 6 106 DIGI 1 Input 6
7 DIGI 2 Input 7 107 DIGI 2 Input 7
8 DIGI 3 Input 8 108 DIGI 3 Input 8
Without Alias, a snapshot created on the primary desk cannot be recalled on
the secondary desk, since the audio settings and the strip assignment for the
DJ mic will always be associated with LogInput ID #1.
According to the desk resource definition, the secondary desk of an A/B Desk
Mode system has no LogInput ID #1.
  UsingAliasesthesnapshotdataareassociatedwiththeAlias.Audiosettings
and the strip assignment for the DJ Mic will be associated with Input1 (Pri-
mary Desk: LogInput ID #1 / Secondary Desk: LogInput ID #101).
If snapshots will never be exchanged between different consoles or between
the primary and secondary desks, Aliases do not have to be changed during
configuration since the system will do a default initialization.
