Calibrationprocedure
Purpose
Thisprocedureexplainshowto
doasinglebeamcalibrationofthe
SimradEK15.
Prerequisites
Inordertodothiscalibration,
observethefollowingprerequisites:
Thecalibrationmustbedone
inopenwater.Thisisbest
accomplishedfromananchored
boatinanareawithhomogenouswater;nothermalorsalinitylayers,andnocurrent.
Youneedacalibrationsphere.Thesphereavailablefor200kHzismadeofcopper,
andithasadiameterof13.7mm.Itsnominaltargetstrengthvariesaround-45
dBre.1m²dependingontemperature,soundspeedandpulseduration.Seethe
documentationprovidedwithyoursphere,andselectthetargetstrengthclosestto
yoursettingsforactualenvironmentalconditions.
Procedure
1Lowerthecalibrationspheretoawaterdepthofminimum5meters.
Forbestresults,8to15metersdepthisrecommended.
2SetthepingintervalontheEK15to1s.
