Theechosounder'stransducerconvertstheelectricalinputpowertoasoundtransmitted
intothewater.InthemajorityofthetransducersmanufacturedbySimradthetransducer's
powerefciencyisbetween50and75%.Thismeansthatbetween50and75%ofthe
inputpoweristransmittedassound.Transducersfromothermanufacturersmayhaveas
lowas5%powerefciency.Naturally,itisveryimportantthatyoucheckthisparameter
whenyouwishtopurchaseatransducer.
Theechosounder'soutputpowerisameasurementonhowmuchelectricalenergy
theampliercansenddowntothetransducer.Themaximumpowerislimitedby
thetransduceryouhave,andhowmuchpoweritmayacceptfromthetransmitterfor
conversiontoacousticenergy.Ifyousendtoomuchpowerintothetransducer,youmay
inictpermanentandunrepairabledamage.
Thesourcelevel(SL)isameasurementonhowmuchacousticenergythatisinfactsent
outbythetransducer,howhigh“volume”itwillemit.Thesourcelevelismeasuredas
