Thebottompulsebasicallyidentiesthebottomdepthjustpriortothepeakofthe
pulse(A).However,thismaynotbethetruebottom.Forexample,ifthebottom
pulseisgeneratedbyarockbottomunderathicklayerofmud,theactualdepthis
slightlyshallower.Forthisreason,theEK15isbydefaultsetuptogiveyouadepth
readingafewmillisecondsbeforethepeakofthepulse.Thisisdonebysettingthe
bottombackstepleveltoadefaultvalueof-50dB(B).
Theactualbottomwillneverappearatthepeakofthebottompulse(A),itwill
alwaysbeslightlybeforethepeak.BychangingtheBottomBackstepparameteryou
canhavethebottomdetectedearlier.Thisfeaturecanforexamplebeusedwhen
youshforatsh,orwhenyouareharvestingseagrass.
