Chapter 7 Alarms
The device continuously monitors the patient and its own performance to ensure that all of the systems are
functioning as intended. When an abnormality or failure occurs, the device activates auditory and visual alarm
signals to remind/warn the user.
The monitor provides alarm signals in the real-time monitoring mode. In standby mode, visual and audio alarms are
disabled.
When there are multiple alarms and prompt messages, messages scroll in a cycle. The alarm audio will be triggered
at the highest priority.
7.1 Safety Information
WARNING
A hazard can exist if different alarm presets are used for the same or similar equipment in any single
area, e.g. an intensive care unit or cardiac operating theatre. The operator should check that the current
alarm presets are appropriate prior to use on each patient.
Both the bedside monitor and the CMS are provided with auditory alarm signals.
When this monitor is connected to the CMS, you can use the same upper and lower alarm limits on the
monitor and CMS. But if you enable alarm delay on this monitor, it will not give an alarm when the CMS
is alarming.
When multiple alarms of different levels are generated simultaneously, the monitor will activate the
alarm sound and light for the highest-priority alarm condition.
Physiological alarm conditions, such as cardiac arrest, ventricular fibrillation, ventricular tachycardia and
RESP, the accompanying auditory and visual alarm signals are the same as high priority alarm conditions,
but the alarm messages are displayed exclusively, i.e., only these types of alarm message are displayed
and they suppress other alarm messages.
Users should set the alarm volume and the alarm limits according to the patent’s actual condition. Do
not monitor the patient only by relying on the audio alarm system. The patient may be put in a dangerous
situation if the alarm volume is low. Set the minimum alarm volume higher than environmental noise.
Do not set alarm limits to extreme values that can render the alarm system useless.
NOTE
The sound pressure level of auditory alarm signals generated by this monitor is 45-85db.
