7 Gas purifier operation
7.1 Safe operation
Always check that the connections and screw connections are tightened and closed
properly.
Maintain the operating processes as described in this operating manual.
Switch on circulation only after inertisation (oxygen concentration of the atmosphere
< approx. 100ppm(V)).
Determine the interval. The intervals for reactor regeneration depend on the pro-
cesses applied.
Regenerate the reactors before they are completely saturated. Saturation is indic-
ated by an increase of the O
2
and H
2
O concentration.
After regeneration, drain the condensing device containing the regeneration con-
densate.
7.1.1 Parameter limits
The functions of the gas purifying system are defined and controlled by parameters.
When setting parameters, always keep the parameter values between the factory-
set lower and upper limits.
If there are no factory set parameters refer to risk analysis.
7.1.2 Select regeneration gas hydrogen concentration
Adjust the H
2
concentration to match your needs (3% < H
2
<5% or 5% < H
2
< 10%).
When regenerating an (optional) regenerative solvent filter, the regeneration gas is the
working gas.
7.1.3 Solvent and solvent filters
If solvents are used as process materials in the glovebox or enclosure: a high concentra-
tion of solvents in the atmosphere can cause damage, e.g. to O-rings, reactor filters, cop-
per pipes and increase the leakage rate. In this case, the mixture of O
2
and solvents in-
creases the risk inherent in operation.
The operating company must ensure that the following steps are taken:
¡ A hazard assessment or risk analysis is performed before the start of operation.
¡ A standard operation procedure (SOP) is in place to cover all risks under the specific
on-site conditions.
¡ The vacuum pump exhaust and regeneration gas exhaust are discharged through a
safe exhaust system on company premises.
¡ During operation, the LMF is replaced (or regenerated) before it gets fully saturated.
If required by the risk analyses, use additional solvent analysers to monitor the box atmo-
sphere and identify a saturation of the LMF ahead of time. For questions please, contact
MBRAUN Service.
1 kg of activated carbon absorbs approx. 100 g of organic solvents. The exact quantity
fluctuates, depending on the solvents used and the ambient temperature.
