In case of a valve failure or a malfunction of the control system, overpressure or negative
pressure (vacuum) may occur.
¡ The standard glovebox may be exposed to extreme overpressure. In case of extreme
overpressure, the fixture of the gloves has been designed so that the gloves can de-
tach from the gloveport before any further serious damage to the system occurs.
¡ Ambient air may become polluted by process chemicals after a glove tear
¡ During normal operation, at least one gloveport must be kept uncovered
¡ Additional independent safety overpressure valves may be required
¡ Depending on the substances used, there may be a suffocation hazard
¡ The standard glovebox may be exposed to extreme negative pressure by the vacuum
pump. In this case, the gloves have been designed to detach from the gloveport.
¡ During normal operation, at least one gloveport must be kept uncovered
¡ Additional independent safety negative pressure valves may be required
¡ If materials handled inside the glovebox may not be exposed to ambient air in case of
an extreme overpressure or negative pressure situation, additional safety measures
are required. Contact MBRAUN if such measures are required.
3.13.2 Risk of electrical hazard
Electric shocks on direct or indirect contact with live parts cause involuntary muscle con-
tractions, burnt tissues and organs and can result in crippling and/or death.
¡ The system must not be operated with an open control cabinet door.
¡ Before starting any work on the electric, the system must be switched off and de-en-
ergised.
¡ All maintenance work on the control cabinet and the electrical system must only be
performed by a trained and experienced electrician. This includes the connection to
the main power supply.
¡ Fuses or fuse holders must not be bridged.
¡ Live wires or cables must not be changed, replaced or repaired.
¡ Before switching on the system, it must be earthed.
Extinguishing fires on electrical devices:
When extinguishing fires on a system with live parts using conductive extinguishing me-
dia, electric shocks will occur.
¡ The system must be switched off before the fire can be extinguished.
¡ The extinguishing medium and the extinguishing equipment must match the general
conditions on site (ABC powder, CO
2
or special water extinguisher).
¡ The emergency and evacuation guidelines of the operating company and applicable
local regulations must be adhered to.
