9 Antechamber operation (Vacuum antechamber)
9.1 Safe operation
WARNING
Improper use
Risk of injury to persons working with the system
► Always ensure that the room is well ventilated.
► Never open the inner and outer antechamber doors at the same time.
► Make sure that the transfer in and out procedures are performed by trained, skilled
and experienced persons.
► If hazardous process materials are in use, make sure that suitable safety measures
are in place, e. g. “Safety Transfer in and out” feature and appropriate SOPs.
NOTICE
Explosion of transport containers / contamination of inert gas atmosphere
Ambient air trapped in transport containers or packages can contaminate the inert gas at-
mosphere. It may trigger unexpected reactions, explosion of transport containers and a
damage of process material.
When transferring material inward:
► Open closed containers such as boxes, bottles, plastic packaging, etc. before loading
into the antechamber. Use vacuum-suitable transport containers and packaging.
► Always perform the full antechamber process with multiple evacuation and refill steps.
WARNING
Inert gas atmosphere escapes into the room
Personal injury
► Conduct a risk analysis with regard to toxic gases inside the glovebox or enclosure
and the requirement of a safe transfer out (and in) procedure with external purge or
refill gas before starting the transfer out sequence.
► In doubt use personal protection equipment (PPE).
SOP for antechamber operation
► Be sure to define an SOP for safely transferring material into and out of the glovebox
or enclosure.
► Make sure the SOP is followed.
