16 Flowmeter Analogue flowmeter, displays the flow of the regeneration
gas for the solvent filter.
17 Solvent filter Non-regenerative
For solvent purification with activated carbon. The solvent
filter removes solvent vapors from the circulating working
gas and protects the reactor(s) against saturation with
solvents.
18 Reactor The reactor removes oxygen and adsorbs moisture from
the circulating gas.
Mol sieve and copper are sufficient to filter about 200g

O and about 18l O

from the circulating atmosphere
until the filter is saturated. When it is saturated, it must be
regenerated by an automatic process.
19 Main switch Switches the inert gas system on or off.
20 Pressure regulator Optional for pressure regulation of a regeneration gas of
a regenerative solvent filter (to adjust the flow rate)
21 Solvent filter Regenerative LMF:
For solvent purification with a mol sieve. The solvent filter
removes solvent vapors from the circulating working gas
and protects the reactor(s) against saturation with
solvents.
22 Flowmeter Analogue flowmeter, displays the flow of the regeneration
gas for the reactor.
23 Flowmeter Analogue flowmeter, displays the flow of the regeneration
gas for the solvent filter.
2.2.4 System control
The system is controlled:
¡ By the operator who switches valves manually on the system (dependent of system
either on the glovebox/enclosure, antechamber or on the gas purifier).
¡ By operator input at the touch panel. The input starts appropriate Siemens PLC-con-
trolled actions (or a series of them).
¡ By programmed control logic of the Siemens PLC while the purifier is in operation.
The Siemens PLC, which is the electronic system control, receives data from the touch
panel (user input) and / or from pressure sensors, safety sensors, other sensors and ana-
lysers. After the Siemens PLC has evaluated and / or processed the received data, it
sends commands to electrical or electromechanical devices such as contactors or elec-
tro-pneumatic valves.
