3.10 Controller
The controller on standard systems is designed to operate systems in accordance with
the European Machine Directive and EN13849-1. This applies to processes with non-
hazardous process materials.
MBRAUN standard systems are not designed for processes and materials with extremely
stringent safety requirements (refer to Process materials), e.g. as specified in EN61511.
Standard MBRAUN controllers are not failsafe against a single failure cause. For pro-
cesses which require an extremely high level of safety, MBRAUN has developed en-
hanced safety measures, including additional hardware for the glovebox.
Contact MBRAUN sales to upgrade the system.
Some of the factory-set parameter values can be adapted to customer-specific conditions
within minimum and maximum values (refer to Default parameter values [}5 - 14]).
As an additional option, a password concept with various access authorizations can be
set up (not included in the standard scope of delivery).
3.11 Gas purifier regeneration
During reactor regeneration toxic or harmful substances and gases could be produced
and may cause severe injury, intoxication or suffocation.
► Assess the solvents being used and circulating with the atmosphere thoroughly ac-
cording to the relevant material safety data sheet.
► make sure to avoid dangerous chemical reactions of the solvents.
► Document the type and amount of solvents and gases being used.
► Connect the exhaust of the gas purifier to a secure in-house exhaust.
Contact MBRAUN for more information if necessary.
3.12 Regenerative solvent filter
If a regenerative solvent filter is used, solvents heat up to approximately 250°C. A heat
caused by chemical reactions may regroup chemical bonds of the solvents and cause the
formation of toxic substances.
► Assess the used solvents thoroughly according the relevant material safety data
sheet.
► Connect the exhaust of the solvent filter (and/or the exhaust of the gas purifier) to an
explosion-protected in-house exhaust system.
► Contact MBRAUN for a specially designed solvent filter system.
3.13 Residual risks
3.13.1 Risk of overpressure and negative pressure
Under normal operating conditions, the glovebox is operated between -15 mbar and
+15mbar (-1.5 kPa … +1.5 kPa).
