Term Description
Siemens PLC Consists of a central processing unit, input and output devices and/
or (depending on the application) peripheral units. The peripheral
elements communicate using bus technology. System control logic is
used to trigger actuators to move in “open / closed” positions or to a
controlled end position defined by evaluated input parameters or a
user input. The actuators can be different types of valves or electric-
ally powered actuators. The logic sequence is programmable and
has an interface to micro controllers. A touch panel serves as the
HMI.
Reactor Contains a proprietary reactive agent with a defined reactivity and a
proprietary adsorbent. A reactor removes both oxygen (O
2
) and
moisture (H
2
O) from the box atmosphere. After a certain operating
time that depends on process parameters set by the operator, the
reactive agent and the adsorbent are exhausted. This is indicated by
a significant increase in concentration of H
2
O and O
2
in the glovebox.
The reactor should then be regenerated using a Siemens PLC-con-
trolled regeneration process which introduces a controlled flow of re-
generation gas and evacuation and refill cycles of the reactor.
