8.4 Working with gloves and glovebreaks
The operator works inside the box with the gloves in order to move material or to support
process flows.
The gloves are also used to operate the antechamber doors or 3rd party equipment loc-
ated inside the govebox/enclosure. Gloves can also be used for overpressure safety. A
glove tear acts as a safety measure against overpressure.
WARNING
Overpressure in the glovebox or enclosure
Risk of a system break which follows a risk of suffocation as high volume of working gas
may escape into the room
Never close ALL glove feedthroughs with gloveport covers (neither inner nor outer
gloveport covers).*
Keep at least one gloveport clear form a gloveport cover and keep it closed with a
glove. Never destroy the designed safety function for gloves with regard to overpres-
sure safety.
* If your process requires a hermetically closing of enclosures or gloveboxes special
safety measures are mandatory. Please ask MBRAUN sales for additional safety equip-
ment.
Standard systems are equipped with round gloveport feed-
throughs and butyl gloves.
Always wear cotton gloves when working with hands inside the box-gloves.
Spare gloves should be available in case a glove is damaged:
Always keep at least one spare set of gloves available for the box.
NOTICE
The material of gloves ages both naturally and due to particular materials in the
glovebox or enclosure
Gloves can be damaged
Make sure that the process material used inside the glovebox/enclosure meets the
specification for seals and gloves. Use gloves, that are made of suitable material.
If necessary, use additional protection such as a gripper tool or temperature guard.
Prevent damage to the gloves by sharp, pointy objects located inside and outside the
containment, and by rotating objects.
Avoid exposure of butyl gloves to UV light and lasers, as well as to extreme temperat-
ures. Keep gloves away from direct radiation.
Regularly check gloves for damage.
