If the solvent filter is activated prior to the activation of the glovebox purge function:
¡ The solvent filter will also be purged. This is recommended for an inertisation of a
solvent filter.
¡ If the solvent filter is already loaded with solvents, solvent vapors could be carried
away with the purge gas. The purge outlet must therefore be connected to an on-site
disposal system.
If the solvent filter is deactivated before the purge function is activated, no solvent filter
purging occurs.
WARNING
Inert gas of high (or infinite) amount
Inert gas may be released into the environment as a result of malfunctions or faulty oper-
ation. This creates a suffocation risk in closed rooms, especially if the fault occurs in the
absence of any personnel.
Make sure that the automatic switch-off function parameter is activated.
If automatic switch-off is deactivated, be sure that the room is ventilated to prevent
the O
2
concentration in the ambient air from falling below 19%.
Always ensure sufficient room ventilation.
Connect the purge exhaust of the inert gas system to a sufficient powerful on-site ex-
haust system. For the required exhaust system flow rate refer to the technical data of
the MBRAUN system media connections.
Safety stop of a glovebox purge
In case of error, such as a glove tear, open flange or leakage at the box window, the O
2
concentration in the box atmosphere will increase. If the box purge function is continu-
ously active, unlimited amounts of working gas will escape into the ambient air. To limit
this potential risk, the automatic box purge duration can be limited via parameter setting.
The pre-set value is 60 min.
WARNING
Risk of suffocation due to disabling of automatic box purge stop function (safety
stop function)
Make sure that there is never a risk to people in the room.
Keep the stop function enabled all the time.
Obligation of the safety representatives
Depending on room size and ventilation or connection of the purge exhaust to an on-site
disposal system, the automatic deactivation can be switched off for the glovebox purge.
In such a case, the safety representative(s) must ensure that there are no risks to people
in the room.
