Using Physical Location as a True Position Reference
Formaterialtransportsystemsthatdonothaveanaligner,theremaybeothermethodsordevices
availablewithinthesystemtofacilitatematerialalignment.Thesearegenerallyofamechanical
natureinwhichthematerialisphysicallymovedtoarepeatablelocationthroughtheuseofbanking
pinsortaperedshafts.Althoughthisslidingactionresultsinphysicalcontactwiththeedgesofthe
materialandmayproduceundesirableparticles,theobjectiveofrepeatedlylocatingthematerialis
achieved.
Forsystemsthatusephysicallocation,itisimportanttounderstandthattheapproachinthe
materialalignmentphaseisessentiallysimilartotheapproachusedwithanaligner.Oncethe
stationassignmenthasbeendefinedwithrespecttothealignmentstation,itmustnotbechanged.
Topositionmaterialbeingdeliveredtothealignmentstationinaslightlydifferentlocation,itisthe
stationassignmentvaluesoftheProcessModulewherethematerialisbeingpickedfromthatmust
bechanged.
System Alignment Check-out
Toverifythatthealignmenthasbeencompletedsuccessfully,usethesystem’scontroller.
Otherwise,useaPCandtheCDM’smaterialtransferfunctionstomovematerialfromeachcassette
throughthesystem.Performtheentirecheck-outusingtherobot’span’A’;ifadualendeffectorarm
setisbeingused,performtheentirecheckoutforpan’B’also.

Oncetherobot’sR,T,andZaxeshavebeensetupforalltransfers,itisnecessarytoverifyproper
transferofmaterialtoandfromallmoduleswithinthesystem.Thisprocedureverifiesproper
operationofmaterialtransferbetweenallmodulesbyobservingsystemoperationduringmaterial
transfers.Thematerialshouldnotslideontheendeffectorsoronanymaterialtransferpoints.
Thereshouldbenobumpingofmaterialagainstcassettewallsorothersystemcomponents.
