Mechanicalunits
Ifamechanicalunitmayhasbeenexposedtoasaltatmospherewhileitwasinuse,it
mustbethoroughlycleanedbothinternallyandexternallytopreventcorrosion.
1Iftheconstructionmaterialsandtypeofunitpermits,washtheunitusinga
high-pressurehoseandcopiousamountsoffreshwater.Examplesarethelower
partsofhullunits(outsidethehull)orsubseaunits
2Ensurethatalltracesofmudandmarinegrowthareremoved.Useawoodenor
plasticscrapertoremovepersistentgrowth,barnaclesetc.Oncompletion,dry
theunitthoroughly.
Caution
Donotuseahighpressurehoseinthevicinityofcablesortransducers.
Donotusesharpormetaltoolsonatransducerface.
3Ifthematerialsortypeofunitpreventstheuseofahigh-pressurehose,wipethe
unitusingaclothdampenedwithwatercontainingalittledetergent.Examplesare
theupperpartsofhullunits(insidethehull)andhydraulicsystems
4Donotuseexcessiveamountsofwaterassomecomponentsontheunitmaynotbe
watertight.Wipeoffthedetergentwithadampcloth,thendrytheunitthoroughly.
5Allsurfacesmustbeinspectedforsignsofcorrosion,aking/bubblingpaint,stains
etc.Damagedorsuspectareasmustbecleaned,preparedandpreservedusingthe
correctpreservationmediums.Themediumstobeusedwillnormallybedenedin
theunit’smaintenancemanual.
Cables
Wipecleanallexposedcables,andcheckfordamage.Ifacableshowssignsofwearor
ageing,contactKongsbergMaritimeforadvice.
Internalbatteries
Iftheunitcontainsbatteries,thesemaydischargeslowlyduringstorage.Iftheunitisto
bestoredforanextendedperiod,disconnectorremoveallinternalbatteries.
Asuitablepieceofinsulatingmaterialcanbeplacedbetweenthebatteryandthe
electricalcontactstopreventelectricaldischarge.Thebatterycanthenremaininthe
unit,reducingtheriskofitbeingmisplacedduringthestorageperiod.
Caution
Unitscontaininglithiumoralkalinebatteriesmustbehandledseparatelyand
withcare.Suchunitsaremarkedaccordingly.Donotattempttorecharge
suchbatteries,openthemordisposeofthembyincineration.Refertothe
applicableproductdatasheets.
