Thephysicalsizeofthesonarroommustbelimited,sothatintheeventofamajor
leak,theoodingofthesonarroomwillnotinduceinstability,orcausethevesselto
capsizeorsink.
1Thesonarroommustbedimensionedtohousealltherelevantcabinetsthat
comprisetheSimradSU90.
2Thesonarroommustnotbeusedforanyothermachinery.
3Thesonarroommustnotbeunnecessarilyobstructedbygirders,pipesetc,which
maycauseinstallationproblemsorimpedemaintenance.
4Thesonarroommustbeaccessibleunderallconditionsatseaorataberth.
5Alldoorsorhatchesmustbedesignedsothattheequipmentcanberemoved
withoutbeingdisassembled.
6Allcablesleadinginandoutofthesonarroommustberuninsteelconduits.These
steelconduitsmustreachupandabovethefreeboarddeck.
Important
ThephysicaldistancebetweentheTransceiverUnitandthehullunitislimitedduetothe
lengthofthetransducercables.
Heating
Thesonarroommustbeequippedwithheater.Thisheatermustdimensionedtomaintain
theequipmentwithinitsenvironmentaltolerances(atleast1000W),anditmustbe
installedclosetothedeck.Heatingisaneffectivemethodforreducinghumidity.
Insulation
Bulkheadsmustbeinsulatedandprovidedwithaninteriorwalltothedeck.The
insulationshouldbetheminimumequivalentof50mmofrock-wool.Inaddition,piping
passingthroughthespacepronetocondensationmustbeinsulated.
Ventilation
Thesonarroommustbeconnectedtothevessel'sventilationsystem.Ifthisisnot
possible,two3”ventsmustbeprovidedfromthesonarroomtothemaindeck.
Intheroom,theairinletmustwheneverpossiblebelocatedclosetothedeckandthe
outletashighaspossible.Afunnelshapeddrip-collectormustbemountedbelowthe
ventpipestodivertmoisturetothebilge.Onthemaindeck,thebestventilationis
