Hints and tips
Check what is hidden
On the XL8, please bear in mind that, unlike on an analogue control surface, some of
the settings and parameters will be hidden from view (stored in the XL8’s computer
memory). We recommend that, at various times during a mix, you select and view
unused parameters to make sure there are no hidden surprises, for example, a reverb
send left from a previous mix.
Check the dashboard screen
It is a good idea to frequently monitor the dashboard screen, which provides, at a
glance, an overview of the console’s status and operation. It shows all the meters and
status condition of faders and some switches, such as solos and mutes. However, some
things will still remain hidden.
Saving a show versus storing a scene
Storing a scene saves the current scene settings to the show file, which is also done
automatically every five seconds. The latest show file is stored in the XL8’s memory.
Although this memory is recalled on XL8 power up, in extreme circumstances, such as a
system failure, this may be lost. However, by saving a show you are copying it onto the
XL8’s solid-state disk, which provides you with a ‘permanent’ copy. We therefore
recommend that you save your work regularly.
