Terminology
To clarify the understanding and use of the digital console and to discriminate between
its analogue equivalent, the terminology has been chosen very carefully (see “Glossary”
on page 311). This should help to avoid confusion as, on analogue consoles, monitor
mixes are produced on aux buses and then routed out of the console on group faders;
here, the terms mix, aux and group all mean the same thing!
Familiarity and proximity on analogue consoles allow operators to get their heads
around this, and Midas make more effort than most to avoid confusion, but it’s almost
impossible to overcome this problem completely. Just take the word monitor, which
can refer to monitor mixes for musicians (on aux buses!) or the monitor mix for the
console engineer (on the solo buses!). So, to overcome this problem on the XL8 Live
Performance System (due to the distributed nature of the product), the names on the
control panels, GUI screens and I/O racks all correspond.
To help with this, the primary buses on the XL8 are defined in Table 4 “Definition of
primary buses” on page 199.
Service and support
The XL8 is a very hi-tech piece of equipment. We provide superb levels of support and
service to give users confidence in Midas digital products.
