Description
You must use line fuses or circuit breakers for overcurrent protection. The protective devices
used may result in power reductions.

6.3.2 Overcurrent protection using residual current devices (RCD)
6.3.2.1 Residual current protective devices (RCD)
Overview
Residual current devices can be optionally used as overcurrent protection devices. Residual
current devices additionally provide preventive re protection in the case of insulation faults,
e.g. for applications in facilities with a risk of re.
Requirement
WARNING
Electric shock or re when using unsuitable residual current devices
In the case of a fault, converters can generate smooth residual currents, rendering type A or
type AC residual current devices unusable.
• Use the recommended type B residual current devices to protect converters.
• If higher-level residual current devices are used, these must also be type B devices.
Description
Residual current devices (RCDs) have to be installed if the power supply conditions in terms of
short-circuit power and loop impedance at the infeed point are not such that the installed
overcurrent protection devices will trip within the prescribed period if a fault occurs.
