16. Retract each of the 4 brushes away from the
center, and until the brush spring presses
against the side of the brush, as shown.
• This will hold the brushes retracted for
reassembly, but will easily snap forward
when complete.
• If any of the brushes slip forward before
you insert the end bell over the motor’s
commutator, stop and re-retract the brushes.
If you don’t, you will damage the brushes.
17. Taking care to not allow any brushes to slip or
the O-ring to move out of its slot, position the
end bell back over the end of the motor. Make
sure to line up the original witness marks.
18. Lower the end bell down until the brush
wires are barely sticking out.
19. Gently push in on the brush wires (or
brushes), making sure you hear the brush
snap forward and contact the commutator.
Double check to make sure all 4 brushes
are extended and the brush wires won’t get
pinched.
20. As necessary, gently tap on the top of the
end cap until the motor bearing is seated in
the bearing pocket.
21. Reinstall the end bell grommets, washers, and nuts.
22. Place a new starlock retainer into the recess on top of the impeller.
• Make sure the ngers of the retaining are facing upward, away from the motor.
• Make sure the small engagement pins of the impeller are positioned in the notches of the retainer.
23. Using a socket large enough to t over the shaft, press the retainer and impeller down over the motor
shaft.
24. Replace the fan cover.
