SV-XPNDR-261 Transponder Installation and Configuration
12-4 SkyView HDX System Installation Manual - Revision E
The following installation procedure should be followed, remembering to allow adequate
space for installation of cables and connectors:
• The SV-XPNDR-261 should be located in an area that is accessible, should the
SV-XPNDR-261 require service.
• Select a position in the aircraft that is not too close to any high external heat
source. (The SV-XPNDR-261 is not a significant heat source itself and does
not need to be kept away from other devices for this reason).
• It is acceptable to locate the SV-XPNDR-261 remotely from the panel, such as
in the aft fuselage, to minimize the length of coaxial cable between the SV-
XPNDR-261 and the transponder antenna.
• Orientation of the SV-XPNDR-261 is not critical – it can be mounted
horizontally, or vertically.
• Secure the mounting tray to the aircraft via the three (3) mounting holes in the
tray. The tray should be mounted to a flat surface - it is important that the tray
is supported at the dimples as well as the three (3) mounting points.
• Put the SV-XPNDR-261 transponder into the secured mounting tray by hooking
the connector end under the lip on the tray.
• Lock the SV-XPNDR-261 into the mounting tray by clipping the retaining wire
over the lugs on the opposite end.
• Avoid sharp bends and placing the cables too near to the aircraft control cables.
12.1.1 Cooling Requirements
The SV-XPNDR-261 meets all applicable TSO requirements without forced air-cooling;
therefore, no additional cooling is required for the SV-XPNDR-261.
12.1.2 Additional Items Required
Additional items you will require, but which are not in the SV-XPNDR-261 package,
include:
• Antenna and fixing hardware. The SV-XPNDR-261 is compatible with any
transponder antenna conforming to TSO-C74.
• Cables and TNC Female connector (or TNC Female to BNC Male adapter).
You need to supply and fabricate all required cables (or cable and connector is
included with your transponder antenna). Guidance on cable types is given
below.
• Mounting hardware: To secure the SV-XPNDR-261 tray to the airframe you will
need at least three (3) flat head screws and three (3) self-locking nuts. If the
aircraft does not have existing mounting provisions you may need to fabricate
additional brackets to support the SV-XPNDR-261 tray.
