12.3 Transponder-Related SkyView Display Settings
12.3.1 Serial Port Setup
Before the TRANSPONDER SETUP menu can be accessed, the SV-XPNDR-261 needs
to be set up as a serial device in the SkyView system. To accomplish this:
SETUP MENU > SYSTEM SETUP > SERIAL PORT SETUP
Select the serial port to which you connected (physically the wires) the SV-
XPNDR-261 SERIAL PORT 1, SERIAL PORT 2, SERIAL PORT 3, or
SERIAL PORT 4.
Select either DYNON SV-XPNDR-261 or DYNON SV-XPNDR-262 as
appropriate. Note that other fields are automatically configured and cannot be
changed. Press ACCEPT.
The data transmitted between the SkyView display and the SV-XPNDR-261 nominally
includes encoded altitude data from SkyView’s ADAHRS. Therefore, no other altitude
encoder hardware is required. However, some locales may require the use of a certified
altitude encoder with the Dynon Avionics SV-XPNDR-261. SkyView supports external
serial altitude encoders that use Icarus/Garmin format (connected via serial port to one
(1) of the SkyView display’s serial ports). When an external serial is connected, the SV-
XPNDR-261 uses the external altitude encoder data source instead of SkyView’s
pressure altitude (from the SV-ADAHRS-200/201). However, the pressure altitude
displayed by SkyView on the PFD page is ALWAYS sourced from the SV-ADAHRS-
200/201.
To have SkyView use an external altitude serial encoder as the pressure altitude source
for the SV-XPNDR-261:
1. Connect a SkyView display serial RX to the respective serial TX connection from
the serial altitude encoder. If your SkyView system has multiple displays, this
connection must be made to all SkyView displays in parallel.
2. Ensure there is a shared ground between the SkyView display and the serial
altitude encoder.
3. Configure the SkyView display serial port RX: SETUP MENU > SYSTEM SETUP
> SERIAL PORT SETUP > SERIAL PORT x SETUP > SERIAL IN DEVICE >
ICARUS/GARMIN ALTITUDE. (The other parameters are set automatically).
12.3.2 SV-XPNDR-261 Settings
The aircraft tail number must be set in SETUP > SYSTEM SETUP >
AIRCRAFT INFORMATION > TAIL NUMBER prior to configuring the
transponder.
The following settings need to be configured before testing and using the SV-XPNDR-
261. They are all accessed under SETUP MENU > TRANSPONDER SETUP:
STATUS: Displays online/offline status, displays hardware, Software, and
Software versions of the SV-XPNDR-261. If shown in YELLOW, a Software
