SV-XPNDR-261 Transponder Installation and Configuration
SkyView HDX System Installation Manual - Revision E 12-21
compliance in specific airspaces. If you do not have an SV-GPS-2020 (or an appropriately
TSO’d WAAS IFR GPS navigator - such as the Garmin GTN or GNS (WAAS only) series)
installed, SkyView will send data from the SV-GPS-2020 to the SV-XPNDR-261.
The FAA 2020 ADS-B Out mandate is codified in 14 CFR § 91.225 and 14 CFR § 91.227.
In general, these regulations require that as of January 1, 2020, if you operate an aircraft
in, below, or above Class B or Class C airspace, or above 10,000 feet in Class E airspace,
an airplane plane must be equipped with:
• A Class 1 Mode S transponder with 1090ES ADS-B Extended Squitter that
meets the performance required in 14 CFR § 91.227 (or UAT; Dynon Avionics’
solution uses the former).
• The GPS supplying position data to the above transponder must meet the
specific performance requirements as defined in 14 CFR § 91.227.
The Dynon Avionics SV-XPNDR-261, as a TSO C166B device, meets the transponder
and ADS-B transmission requirements for 14 CFR § 91.225 and 14 CFR § 91.227.
The Dynon Avionics SV-GPS-2020, as a high integrity GPS receiver, meets the specific
performance requirements as defined in 14 CFR § 91.227.
Additional options for a GPS receiver that meets the specific performance requirements
as defined in 14 CFR § 91.227 include (that are supported by direct input to the SV-
XPNDR-261):
• Avidyne IFD440 and IFD540.
• FreeFlight 1201 and 1203.
• Garmin GNS (WAAS only).
• Garmin GTN.
• Trig Avionics TN70.
12.4.1 Installation of SV-GPS-2020 for FAA 2020 ADS-B Out Mandate Compliance
The most common GPS position source for compliance for performance requirements for
GPS data for FAA 2020 ADS-B Out mandate is the SV-GPS-2020 GPS Antenna/Receiver
Module (High Integrity GPS - meets FAA 2020 ADS-B Out requirements). Installation is
described in SV-GPS-2020 GPS Antenna/Receiver Installation earlier in this manual. For
compliance, the SV-GPS-2020 must be installed in conjunction with an installed SV-
XPNDR-261 with up-to-date Software (see SV-XPNDR-261 Software Updates later in this
section), and SkyView Software v14.0 (or later).
If you have already installed and configured the serial port setup for an SV-GPS-2020,
perform the following steps to complete the SV-GPS-2020 installation:
SETUP MENU > TRANSPONDER SETUP > GPS DATA (OK) and select DYNON
SV-GPS-2020.
