SV-XPNDR-261 Transponder Installation and Configuration
12-20 SkyView HDX System Installation Manual - Revision E
If an SV-ADSB-472 is not installed and configured, the following settings are
accessible:
o NONE Set to NONE if there is no ADS-B IN equipment on board the
aircraft.
o 1090 MHz ES Select this option if there is ADS-B IN equipment on board
that receives only on 1090 MHz.
o 978 MHz UAT Select this option if there is ADS-B IN equipment on board
that receives on 978 MHz (other than the Dynon Avionics SV-ADSB-472).
Select this option if the ADS-B IN equipment on board is dual-band
(receives on both 1090 MHz and 978 MHz).
AIRCRAFT CATEGORY: To assist ATC tracking of aircraft, an aircraft category
can be transmitted by Mode S transponders. Set as appropriate for your
aircraft.
AIRCRAFT LENGTH and AIRCRAFT WIDTH: On the ground, ADS-B transmits
encoded aircraft size information which is used by ATC to identify taxiing routes
and potential conflicts. Using the aircraft length and width (wingspan), in your
current distance/speed units (meters or feet), the SV-XPNDR-26 will calculate
the appropriate size code for transmission.
MAXIMUM CRUISE SPEED: Mode S transponders can transmit their
maximum airspeed characteristics to aircraft equipped with TCAS. This
information is used to help identify threats and to plan avoiding action by the
TCAS equipped aircraft. The airspeeds are grouped in ranges. Set as
appropriate for your aircraft.
TIS TRAFFIC: Enables the display of TIS traffic on the SkyView Map page
when in an area served by a TIS-enabled RADAR. Note that TIS is a Mode S
uplink service that is provided by some US approach RADARs. TIS coverage
is limited to the coverage areas of those radars; there is no TIS provision
outside the USA. If another traffic device is connected to SkyView and is set up
correctly, its traffic information will trump the TIS traffic from the SV-XPNDR-
261, regardless of this setting.
12.4 Equipping for FAA 2020 ADS-B Out Mandate Compliance (U.S. Only)
It is important to note that in the U.S., the ADS-B Out “mandate” and the associated GPS
requirements do not go into effect until January 1, 2020, and the mandate only requires
The FAA’s ADS-B rule currently permits class A1, A1S, A2, A3, B1S, or B1
transponder-based 1090ES ADS-B transmissions for compliance once the
FAA 2020 ADS-B Out rules mandate goes into effect January 1, 2020.
Therefore, only the higher power class B1S SV-XPNDR-261 will be able to
meet the 2020 ADS-B Out requirement. If your aircraft is equipped with an
SV-XPNDR-262, it must be replaced with an SV-XPNDR-261 (or other Class
1 Mode-S transponder) to be compliant with the FAA 2020 ADS-B Out
mandate.
