SV-XPNDR-261/262 Installation and Configuration
SkyView System Installation Guide - Revision AA 11-37
Deprecated SV-XPNDR-261/262 Software Update Instructions and notes
The instructions for earlier Software updates below are deprecated, retained in this manual for
reference only. In 2016 and beyond, it is unlikely that that the situations, or SkyView Software
versions, or SV-XPNDR-261/262 Software versions, are present in your aircraft. As explained
above, SV-XPNDR-261/262 Software v02.09, which is included with SkyView Software v14.2 and
later, incorporates all previous Software changes shown below.
SkyView Software v5.0 – v7.1 SV-XPNDR-261/262 Software SW02.02 Update
The optional SV-XPNDR-261/262 Software SW02.02 Software update that was contained within
SkyView Software v5.0 through v7.1 updated the ADS-B out capability of the SV-XPNDR-
261/262 so that it meets the latest TSO C166b. This TSO will be required by the FAA 2020 ADS-B
Out mandate and other regulatory agencies around the world.
SV-XPNDR-261/262 Software update SW02.02 contained in SkyView Software v5.0 through v7.1
also enabled an AUTOMATIC option for the AUTO ALT/GND setting which allows the SV-XPNDR-
261/262 to automatically determine whether the aircraft is in flight or not by using a
combination of GPS and air data changes from SkyView.
Note that after the SV-XPNDR-261/262 SW02.02 Software update, only the SV-XPNDR-261 is
capable of meeting the FAA 2020 ADS-B Out mandate, because of power transmission
requirements that the FAA 2020 ADS-B Out mandate imposes. In other words, the SV-XPNDR-
262, even if it is updated to this Software, cannot be used as part of equipping for the FAA 2020
ADS-B Out mandate.
SkyView Software v10.0 – v12.0 SV-XPNDR-261/262 Software SW02.04 Update
The optional SV-XPNDR-261/262 Software SW02.04 Software update that is contained within
SkyView Software v10.0 through v12.0 fixes an issue that only pertains to some installations. It
also includes the updates described above for SV-XPNDR-261/262 Software version SW02.02
update. If either of the following scenarios describes your installation, you should update your
SV-XPNDR-261/262 to SW02.04 Software:
If upgrading from a version of SkyView Software prior to v5.0, v5.0 and later
contain a Software upgrade to the SV-XPNDR-261/262. This Software update adds
the option to have the SV-XPNDR-261/262 automatically switch modes as the
transition between ground operation and flight is detected.
This Software upgrade also updates the ADS-B out capability of the transponder to
meet TSO-C166B for ADS-B Out functionality. This change REQUIRES that the
physical transponder module be labeled to indicate the new TSO authorization.
Failure to perform this physical modification at the same time as the Software
update will result in a transponder which is likely not considered airworthy by
aviation regulatory agencies.
