SkyView System Installation Guide - Revision AA 21-3
SkyView Displays Error: SYS EVENT 5: SEE SETUP
The System Event diagnostic was added in SkyView Software v13.0. System Event 5 indicates
that the SkyView display's internal Solid State Disk (SSD) is experiencing an abnormal number of
errors, and thus should be replaced. This feature was added to help detect units that may have
potential problems with rebooting in flight or possible screen freezes. To be clear, although
System Event 5 is only displayed after updating to v13.0 or later, “System Event 5” is not caused
by updating to v13.0 or later; v13.0 and later added this diagnostic to detect an existing
situation (abnormal number of errors with the SSD).
The repair of the internal SSD can only be performed at the Dynon Avionics factory. Repair of
SkyView displays for System Event 5 is considered a Warranty Repair, regardless of whether
your SkyView display’s warranty is still in effect, or has expired. To arrange for a Return
Material Authorization (RMA) for repair of your SkyView display for System Event 5, contact
Dynon Avionics Technical Support (contact information at the beginning of this manual).
Before removing your SkyView display to ship to Dynon Avionics, please perform the following
procedure to save a backup of your most important settings. You will need a USB flash drive
(memory stick) - capacity of 1 GB is adequate, available inexpensively at most office supply and
grocery stores. We recommend that you save these files to a USB flash drive not used for
anything else.
1. Manually record your HOBBS and TACH time, as these two pieces of information are not
saved in the backup file.
2. Power up the SkyView display / system.
3. If you have another USB flash drive inserted into this SkyView display, temporarily remove it
(SkyView can only "see" one USB flash drive at a time).
4. Insert the "backup" USB flash drive on the SkyView display you will be sending in for trade-
in.
5. Push buttons 7+8 together to enter the SETUP MENU.
6. SETUP MENU > SYSTEM SOFTWARE > EXPORT SETTINGS > (fill in the blank - suggest FINAL
BACKUP) > EXPORT (button). The settings files will be saved to the USB flash drive.
7. After the export is complete, remove the USB flash drive
8. Power down the SkyView display.
9. Put the USB flash drive in a safe place
If the worst happens - your SkyView display is damaged or lost in transit, this will allow you to
restore MOST settings of your SkyView system.
Returning SkyView Components to Service after Repair
SkyView Network enabled components such as modules and servos are shipped in a “like new”
state after repair. To return a SkyView Network component to SkyView Network, follow the
following directions. Note that there are 3 different procedures for returning SkyView displays
to service, depending on how the display is returned:
