Performing Transponder Checks
Transponder checks require manual switching to ALT and GND mode.
A Dynon Avionics SV-XPNDR-261/262 is normally configured to automatically switch between
GND and ALT mode based on airspeed and other parameters – SETUP MENU > TRANSPONDER
SETUP > AUTO ALT/GND > AUTOMATIC (AIR DATA). In this mode, in the XPNDR menu, the GND
button does not appear, and the ALT button will not change mode unless you are in flight.
Note that some aircraft may be equipped with a squat switch for transponder mode control;
before changing AUTO ALT/GND, record which squat switch configuration is set; you will need
this information to restore AUTO ALT/GND to this setting after transponder testing is complete.
To be able to manually switch the SV-XPNDR-261/262 between ALT and GND mode, you must
temporarily reconfigure the transponder: SETUP MENU > TRANSPONDER SETUP > AUTO
ALT/GND > NONE > EXIT (button).
The SV-XNDR-261/262 can now be manually switched to ALT and GND modes: XPNDR > ALT
and XPNDR > GND.
After transponder testing is complete, remember to return the transponder to its
normal configuration: (typically) SETUP MENU > TRANSPONDER SETUP > AUTO
ALT/GND > AUTOMATIC (AIR DATA) or the squat switch configuration as
previously recorded.
