A VPN instance takes effect only after it is configured with an RD. The RDs of different VPN
instances on a PE should be different.
Before configuring an RD, you can configure only the description.
Step 4 (Optional) Run:
description description-information
The description of the VPN instance is configured.
The description contains the information such as host name and interface description. It also
contains the relationship between a VPN instance and a VPN. You can configure the description
information as required.

3.3.3 Configuring the Attributes of a VPN Instance
Context
Do as follows on the PEs configured with the VPN instance.
Procedure
Step 1 Run:
system-view
The system view is displayed.
Step 2 Run:
ip vpn-instance vpn-instance-name
The VPN instance view is displayed.
Step 3 Run:
vpn-target vpn-target &<1-8> [ both | export-extcommunity | import-extcommunity ]
The VPN target is configured.
A VPN target is the extended community attribute of the Border Gateway Protocol (BGP). It
controls the reception and advertisement of VPN routes. By running the vpn-target command
once, you can configure a maximum of eight VPN targets. A VPN instance can be configured
with a maximum of 16 VPN targets.
Step 4 (Optional) Run:
routing-table limit number { alert-percent | simply-alert }
The maximum number of routes in the VPN instance is set.
To prevent the PE from importing too many routes from the CE, set the maximum number of
routes supported by the VPN instance.
Step 5 (Optional) Run:
import route-policy policy-name
The import routing policy of the VPN instance is configured.
Step 6 (Optional) Run:
export route-policy policy-name
