Performance Monitoring Counters
The automac Performance Monitoring (PM) funcon aids in the maintenance, operaons, and trouble clearing
of the network-side facility. The PM funcons refer to in-service monitoring of equipment condions and
transmission quality using PM parameter data registers. The PM data is collected for crical equipment as well as
for facility path, secon, and line parameters.
The PM funcons accumulate data for specic performance parameters. These parameters enable service
providers to oer the following features:
■Detecon of gradual increase in error rate and correcon of certain maintenance problems before service is
aected
â– Guaranteed service to end users by using PM data as evidence of high signal-path quality
The PM data is stored in the following registers using two dierent protocols:
■Cumulave registers, which have no ming component. Generally, these registers hold up to 2
64
–1 counts
and roll back to a value of 1 when the maximum count is exceeded.
■Timed registers, somemes referred to as binned registers, of which two types exist:
• 15-minute registers that are automacally inialized on the quarter hour. Thirty-two 15-minute registers
provide history storage for the previous 8 hours of PM counts.
• 1-day registers that are automacally inialized every 24 hours (typically at midnight). Thirty-two 1-day
registers provide history storage for the previous 32 days acvity.
