User Channel
The user channel allows the user to set up an Ethernet communicaon connecon between two devices (either
ASCII terminals or computers) located at adjacent or nonadjacent L100 Lambda node. The user channel
communicaons are transmied through the L100 as part of the OSC payload. A user channel is funconally
equivalent to a hardwired, back-to-back Ethernet connecon between the devices.
Data packets are received through Ethernet management port (RJ-45 connector), wrapped in High-Level Data
Link Control (HDLC) frame, and transferred across the networks or NEs. No capability exists for the interface to
communicate with the user network from a logical perspecve; therefore, no MAC address is assigned to the
interface. It is merely a 10 Mb/s Ethernet data pipe between NEs.
