b) Set RS232 DEVICE to match the type of device to which you connect the
38DL PLUS:
PRINTER: when connecting to serial printers.
TERMINAL: when connecting to computers.
CALIPER: when connecting to the Olympus caliper (P/N: HPV/C
[U8780124]).
FISCHER: when connecting to the Fischer coating gage.
c) Set BAUD RATE to the same value selected in step 1.a.
d) Set CONTINUOUS OUTPUT MODE to one of the following options:
OFF: Continuous output is off (default value).
ON: Continuously sends data at the selected measurement rate (see
Adjusting the Measurement Update Rate” on page 60).
5 SEC AVERAGE: Sends one averaged thickness reading every
5 seconds.
10 SEC AVERAGE: Sends one averaged thickness reading every
10 seconds.

8. Using the appropriate RS-232 cable (see Table 23 on page 246), connect the
38DL PLUS to the remote serial communication device.
9. If needed, on the remote serial communication device, start the serial
communication program.
10. Press [MEAS] to return to the measurement screen.
