Command Usage
• Isolated VLANs provide security for group members. The associated
primary VLAN provides a common interface for access to other network
resources within the primary VLAN (for example, servers configured
with promiscuous ports) and to resources outside of the primary VLAN
(via promiscuous ports).
• When an isolated VLAN is associated with a primary VLAN (see
private vlan association, section 7.17.17 on page 871), the
ports associated with the isolated VLAN (see switchport private-
vlan host-association, section 7.17.20 on page 875)
automatically join the primary VLAN, and the ports mapped to the
primary VLAN (see switchport private-vlan mapping, section
7.17.19 on page 874) automatically join the isolated VLAN. Even though
these ports are added to both the primary and isolated VLANs for
software processing, this does not affect the basic relationship between
isolated and promiscuous ports described in the previous sections.
